Notes | Edition of the Alexander fragment in Brussels, KBR, II 139. According to Scheler the text of the fragment is better than that of the edition by Michelant. This fragment appears to have been unknown to the editors of the Medieval French Alexander project. |

Scribe description: | Gothic script with ancient featurs. Two-compartment 'a' of which the upper compartment is open. Exclusive use of straight, half-uncial 'd', although uncial 'd' is used in the majuscule column. The lower lobe of 'g' is open. I-longa is used after 'y'. Pronounced tongued 'e'. Abbreviations include superscript vowels ('a', 'e', 'i', 'o'), Tironian 'et' which is generally uncrossed (except for in the majuscule column); horizontal bar is used for q(ue) but untypically also for 'r'-abbreviations. Unusual in younger Gothic script is also the 'est'-abbreviation. Unusual biting of 'a' and round 'r'. |
