| General illustration: | The 'Queste' (f. 1ra) opens with a historiated initial (height: 6 lines), painted red and blue on a field of gold leaf. The miniature shows how Arthur welcomes a lady at court in Camelot. The background of the letter has been developed to represent the interior and towers of the royal residence. Tears in the parchment run through the painting and the colour has faded. |
| General decoration: | The text is divided by large puzzle initials (height: 5-8 lines, e.g. f. 8v; 13r; ) in red and blue, decorated inside and out with pen-flourishings in the same colours. Smaller subdivisions are marked with smaller pen-decorated initials (height: 2 lines), alternating between red and blue with flourishings in the contrasting colours. The beginning of the 'Mort le roi Artu' (f. 80r) is marked with an extremely large (height: 10 lines) and lavishly decorated puzzle initial. |

| Scribe description: | Small, compact textualis rotundus, written above top line with double compartment 'a', the upper lobe of which is open, clubbed ascenders on 'b', 'h', 'k' and 'l', uncial 'd', tongued 'e' in final position, Rücken-'g' with closed lower lobe, diacritic on 'i' in minim group, limbs of 'm' and 'n' do not extend below the baseline, the descender of 'p' and 'q' curves to the right, biting of 'o' and round 'r', exclusive use of straight 's', vertical stroke of 't' does not extend above the headstroke, use of 'v' in initial position, 3-like 'z'. Use of punctus. No indication of word-separation. Abbreviations include superscript vowels ('i'), 'com'-abbreviation, uncrossed tironian 'et'. 'ss' ligature. |
