Foliations description: | Three numbering series: 1) cartulation in plummet by a modern hand in the top right corner; 2) cartulation in brown ink by a 15th-c. hand (the same that copied Part II?) in the bottom right corner of the r., under the b column, irregularly present. See also Part1 quire structure; 3) cartulation in brown ink by the same hand at ff. 269-273 and 276, respectively numbered a i, b ii, c iii, d iiii, e v and h viii. This progressive numbering also involves ff. 274-275: two folios belonging to Part 1 that were 'saved' and numbered f vi, g vii (a fourth series, marked in red, emerges here: a ii, a iii, see also Part 1). In the same way, ff. 335-338 are respectively numbered a i, b ii, c iii, d iiii (d iiii has been crossed out). It is possible to make the following hypothesis: a) the hand responsible for 2 and 3 employed a combined system to mark the elements Part I and Part II, as part of a restoration plan; b) Part 2 does not make good a lacuna original to the MS but rather fills a mechanical lacuna; c) the intervention is performed in a very economical way, systematically ordering the elements of the new composite quire in the effort to preserve all that could have been preserved; d) it is likely that initially a further folio belonging to Part 1 was 'saved' and marked a i (the missing element of the red series) and, for some reason, finally discarded. |
