| General illustration: | The manuscript has 46 unframed illustrations of the narrative content in the bas de page, 9 ornamented and 8 historiated initials. Some of these are damaged, but many are in good condition. |
| General decoration: | Chapters are rubricated and begin with a two-line high initial, alternating between red and blue. These initials, however, are plain and not ornate. |
| Evidence of readership: | Throughout the manuscript a near contemporary hand has written the names of many of those mentioned in the narrative in the margins. These names are in a mixture of French and Italian. On some pages characters in the bas de page illustrations are also identified by the same hand. De Visser-van Terwisga (1999, 28) argues this hand is the same as that of the second scribe, but as she notes the hand used for the annotations (and also various additions, see 11r and 47r for example) is far more cursive. It is thus by no means clear that the annotations and additions are the work of the second scribe; it also seems at least possible that the annotations and additions are the work of more than one scribe. Furthermore, if the annotation on 10v, which calculates the time from creation to the present day, responding thereby to the text's account of the ages of man, gives an indication of the date of at least some of the annotations and additions (1431), this is hardly commensurate with their being the work of the second scribe. |

| Scribe description: | The scribe makes some unusual backwards strokes at the top of long ascenders (on 'b', 'l', 'h' for example) and also slopes backwards noticeably on 'v' and 'd'. The scribe uses comparatively few abbreviations, but appears to have a system of diacritic accents. This scribe resumes on 59r and then copies until 72v, resuming again on 74r until 110v. |
