Table of contents | Table of contents for the 'Histoire ancienne' and 'Faits des Romains' on ff. 1-10. Folios missing after f. 1 (cut out). Following the rubric 'Cy commence la table sur le liure / de orose et sensuivent les rubriches / de chascun chappitre lesquelles seront / en le fin signees et nombrees pareille / ment comme le feuillet sur quoy elles / sont assises' have been copied the chapter headings of the 'Histoire ancienne' in two columns. The headings are followed by the folio number. Copied in brown ink, each heading starts with a pen decorated initial (1 line; gold with blue flourishings alternating with blue with red flourishing. The folio numbers are separated from the titles by line fillers (dashes in blue or red ink). The rubrics of the 'Faits des Romains' have their own heading: ' Cy apres commence la table sur le liure de Lucan'. |

General illustration: | Frontispieces (f. 10r; f. 202r) by the Boethius master; smaller miniatures (height: c. 14 lines, two frames, goldleaf and traced in black ink,; backgrounds brown ink, pictures grisaille with heavy shadowing) by the Master of the Berry Apocalypse (cf. Catalogue of illuminated manuscripts). |
General decoration: | Miniatures are followed by puzzle initials (blue and goldleaf, height: 4 lines) with flourishings in red ink and j-borders in blue and goldleaf. Chapters are introduced by red rubricated headings and generally start with a pen-flourished initials (height: 2 lines; blue with red decorations alternating with goldleaf with blue decorations). These chapters are further subdivided by means of paragraph marks, blue with red flourishings alternating with goldleaf and blue flourishings. Line fillers in red and blue, goldleaf. The subdivisions of the Histoire Ancienne are not distinctively marked. |
Evidence of readership: | Pastedown: crude drawings of a male head.
