Physical description

General description:Low-grade MS. Minimal decoration, careless writing. The page is almost entirely covered with text. Particular version of the 'Estoire del Saint Graal' (see: Chase 2013).
General illustration:Not illustrated.
General decoration:Plain initials in red ink of different size. The text opens with an initial of 4 lines. Similar Initials (4-6 lines) at major divisions of the text. Initials of two lines at paragraphs. Wavy lines in red ink fill the blank spaces at the end of lines. Guide letters in the margins.
Evidence of readership:On f. 1r, old shelfmarks 'du Mare 394' 'Reg. 8188 3'. On f. 338v, list of 'dramatis personae' in modern hand.
Foliations description:Modern foliation in the upper right corner of the recto. The first, in black ink, takes into account the vellum guardleaf. The second, in pencil does not. The foliation followed in this description is that in ink.

Mise en page

Description 1Prickings visible in the lower and outer margin. Since the text was copied in a single column, the prickings in the lower margin are not very helpful. Possibly the parchment was prepared for other use.
