Physical description

No. of illustrations:3
General illustration:Three half-page illustrations. The first on f. 1r portrays Adam and Eve standing before God in the Garden of Eden. The miniature is followed by an introductory rubric and a large, gold initial (height: 4 lines) on a blue field and decorated with gold acanthus leaves. Further decoration consists of a full-page border of acanthus leaves, gold balls, grapes or berries and little wild flowers. The right border is inhabited by a hybrid satyr-like creature, but blue, with a trunk and tusks. In the lower border is the coat of arms of Bois dit du Chastel, supported by two angels. The second on f. 137v, represents scenes from the lives of Edipus and Antigone and is accompanied by a boarder with gooseberries and inhabited by satyrs. The third image, on f. 183v, portrays the siege of Troy and clearly shows the Trojan horse. It has a border of acanthus and chestnuts.
General decoration:Apart from the illustrated pages, decoration is sober. Chapters are introduced by rubricated tituli, followed by plain initials in red ink (height: 3 lines). Further subdivisions are indicated with paragraph marks in red ink. Running titles in brown ink, preceded by a red paragraph mark in the upper right corner of the recto. Litterae notabiliores (e.g. at the start of clauses) highlighted in yellow ink.
Evidence of readership:In the lower border of f. 1r, in modern script, 'Des Celestins de Paris'. On f. 107v, in the lower margin: ?de bosselane?. On f. 121r, '?.? Tous paix'. On f. 152r annotation in the lower margin: 'nous voulons le roy adrastus'. On f. 196v: drawing of Jason.
