Condition:	Mediocre parchment, of varying thickness, with the occasional small hole (e.g. f. 46) and stitched tear (e.g. f. 106). Hair follicles are sometimes so prominent as to obscure the text (e.g. f. 31v). Some text is illegible at the beginning of the codex due to creasing and folding, and there are miscellaneous stains throughout (e.g. ff. 72v-73r). The volume has been trimmed very close to the justification.

Scribe description:	The text copied by Vielliard's Scribe I is no doubt the work of multiple (a dozen?) copyists. The first, responsible for ff. 1ra-4va, 5ra-10ra, etc. displays the following traits: two-compartment 'a' (though upper bow often barely present); some forked ascenders; 'g' with angular lower lobe; round 's' (slanting left) and occasionally tall 's' in final position; 'v' consistently used in initial position; dotted 'y'; tironian 'et' with bar.

Condition:	Fairly average parchment, sometimes rather dark in appearance (e.g. ff. 271-2), with some small holes (e.g. ff. 183, 227, 234, etc.) and stitched tears (e.g. ff. 263, 276, 563, etc.). There are numerous folded and torn corners, and several tears at the side (e.g. ff. 271, 523, 624, etc.). The final five quires of the codex are in poorer condition in terms of tears, stains, and creasing. The top quarter of the final bifolium (ff. 654-5) and the outer column of f. 655 are missing.

Scribe description:	It was no doubt the round ductus of this script that prompted Bogdanow to suggest that it was 'fort probablement italien' (Bogdanow 1991, 167). There are, however, several more 'northern' features, including box 'a' (far more frequent than rotunda 'a'), forked ascenders, 'h' with a limb extending below the baseline, 'v' in initial position (as well as 'u'), and crossed tironian 'et'. Round 'r' has a hairline descending below the baseline, round 's' occurs consistently in final position, 't' has a vertical pendant hairline when in final position, and the base of 3-shaped 'z' curves to the right.

Condition:	Fairly good quality parchment in the main, with the odd small hole (e.g. ff. 334, 372, 425, etc.), and numerous stitched tears (ff. 296, 309, 329, etc.). The opening page (f. 296r) is particularly worn (rendering some text illegible), and this MS Part is also affected by tears (e.g. f. 441) and creasing.

Top-line ascenders and bottom-line descenders are often elongated and decorated.
