Front end papers (7): | Seven paper guardleaves at the front. On the sixth guardleaf (foliated 'A'), paper fragment with shelfmark and note'De mr Le marechal D'Estées'. On the seventh guardleaf (foliated 'B'), recto and verso side, table of contents in a modern hand, listing twenty texts. The 'Queste' is described as 'La plus grande partie du roman de Graal ou les aventures des chevaliers de la table ronde le comencement manque l'auteur du roman parle ainsi de luy - Maistres gautiers maps se trest afaire son livre del graal por lamor dou roi hanri son seignor etc. Je crois que cest henry iii roy d'angleterre, ainsi ce roman fut ecrit en 1220 environ.' On the recto of the final front guardleaf, in the same hand, a note on the date of the MS (beginning of the 14th c.) and the main scribe, who names himself at the end of the 'Tresor'. |

Scribe description: | Rounded Northern textualis with two-compartment 'a' with open upper compartment, forked ascenders on 'b','h','l', uncial 'd', 'e' without tongue, limb of 'h' descend below the baseline, curving to the left, diacritic on 'i' in sequence of minims, 'i'-longa in numerals, straight 's' in final position, vertical stroke of 't' does not ascend above the headstroke, 'v' occurs in initial position, diacritic on 'y', 3-like 'z'. Abbreviations include crossed tironian 'et', 'p' with crossed descender, 'com' abbreviation, nasal bar, apostrophe, superscript vowels ('i', 'a'). Fusion of 'o' and round 'r', 'p' and 'o'. 'st' ligature. Punctus and punctus elevatus. Word-separation indicated with slanting dash. The 'Lucidaire' was copied by another hand, which appears as slightly more modern ('a' with closed upper compartement, round 's' in final position). |
