| Condition: | At least one quire has been lost at the beginning of the manuscript (older foliation in the lower margin starts at 11; another in the upper right corner at 12). The folios of the first quire are severely damaged in the outer margin/column. This is particularly true for folios 1 to 6. The vellum is of medium to lower quality with disruptive holes (e.g. f. 62) and stitches (e.g. f. 134) in the writing space. Folio 85 is torn. |

| Quire structure: | 1: ff. 1-8: change of scribe and mise-en page in next quire; uniformity of the decoration ; lacuna. 2: ff. 9-16: catchword. 3: ff. 17-24? 4: ff. 24-32? lacuna between 32 and 33 (older foliation in the bottom margin jumps from 43 to 45). 5: ff. 33?-38? verso of folio 38 left blank (later drawing of a knight riding a stag); change of scribe and mise en page in next quire. 6: ff. 39-46: catchword f. 39: first use of paragraph signs. 7: ff. 47-54: catchword. 8: ff. 55-60: catchword change of scribe in next quire. This scribe has a very horizontal ascender for 'd'. 9: ff. 61-68: catchword change of scribe in next quire. This scribe has praescissus features and a two-compartment 'a' the upper compartment of which is closed (box-'a'). 10: ff. 69-76? 11: ff. 76?-78? change of scribe in the next quire cf. quire 8? 12: ff. 79-86 (catchword). 13: ff. 87-94 (catchword) uncharacteristic abbreviation 'p(ro)phete' on f. 94va. lacuna of one folio between 94 and 95? (the foliation in the lower margin jumps from 107 to 109). 14: ff. 95-96 (catchword) b-column of 96v has been left blank; change of scribe in the next quire, again with praescissus features; also remarkable change in the style decoration in this quire. Also the alternation between red and blue initials is disturbed (and on ff. 97r, 98v-99r, 100v-101r, 104v-105r, 107v-108r, 117v-18r, 120v, 128v-30r, and 137r; f. 144v completely replaced by red initials with greenish flourishings, sometimes with masks e.g. ff. 117v-18r). Introduction of quire mark system. In this last part of the manuscript peculiar system for the order of quires: the same letter is written under the b-column of the verso of the final folio of one quire and under the a-column of the recto of the first folio of the next quire. 15: ff. 97-104 (catchword + quiremark). 16: ff. 105-112 (catchword + quiremark). 17: 113-120 (catchword + quiremark). 18: ff. 121-128 (catchword + quiremark). 19: ff. 129-136 (catchword + quiremark). 20: ff. 137-144 (catchword + quiremark). 21: ff. 145-148 (catchword + quiremark). 22: ff. 149-156. | General description: | A remarkable change in the style of decoration occurs between ff. 104 and 105. |

| General decoration: | The text is structured by means of large pen-decorated puzzle initials (height: 5-7 lines). These initials are accompanied by decorative j-borders in blue and red. Further subdivisions are indicated by smaller pen-decorated initials (height: 2 lines) alternating between blue and red with flourishings in the contrasting colour. Line-filling devices which are uncharacteristic of northern manuscripts at this time (e.g. f. 15ra). In the first part of the manuscript (ff. 1-96) red ink is also used to highlight letters in the text. In the second part of the manuscript there is in some instances an abrupt change in the style of the decoration (see also structure). |
