Material

Material:Material object (4)
Watermark:
Condition:Medium to lower quality vellum with many holes (e.g. ff. 13, 35, 226, and 227) and stitches (e.g. ff. 42 and 55). The manuscript is worn, especially the folios at the end of the codex. Given that quire 6 is marked 'n' it is probable that at least eight quires have been lost at the beginning of the manuscript. Additionally, one folio is missing before f. 1. The lower margin of f. 10 has been torn, f. 14 is stained; ff. 86 and 87 are torn. One folio has been torn out between ff. 121 and 122. One folio is missing before f. 133. All the margins of f. 225 have been trimmed away. The lower margin of f. 234 has been trimmed. Folio(s) missing between ff. 273 and 274 and between ff. 329 and 330. Folios 337, 343, and 344 have been mutilated. An error has occurred in the order of the folios in the penultimate quire.

Scribe description:Northern textualis with double-compartment 'a', the upper compartment of which is open. The letters 'b', 'h' and 'l' have forked ascenders. The ascender of 'd' curves slightly towards the right. The limb of 'h' descends below the baseline and curls to the right. Both straight and round 's' occur in final position. Use of 'v' in initial position. Abbreviations include nasal bar, also used for 'q(ue)', apostrophe, 'com-' and '-us' abbreviations, 'p' with crossed descender, crossed tironian 'et'. Many fusions, including 'ci', 'co', 'de', 'dr'. 'po', 'pe', 'oc', 'or', and 'ti', 'st' ligature. Multiple scribes. The scribe taking over at f. 10 rarely uses round 's' in final position and is inclined to use 'u' also for 'v' in initial position.
